Having had a particularly busy and stressful year I was looking for a weekend getaway to take the family. The island’s incredible proximity to the central belt of Scotland makes it advantageous territory for day trips and, as such, my visits have always been too fleeting. But, no longer. With several days to play with and looking for some much needed R and R I booked this stunning cottage as our base for the weekend. Northbank Cottage in Whiting Bay.
Arran has everything! Ivory sand and rock scattered beaches stretch alongside the scenic coastal roads. The fragrant woodland paths are surrounded by luminous green foliage and impressively tall trees. You can find Castles in uninhabited ruins, protecting little inlets of land while others overlook glorious floral gardens. Every seat is a seat with a view and every view on this island is stunning!! Goat Fell, Cheese, Whiskey, the reasons to visit go on and on. The island is home to just over 5000 people and it feels like a magical place where time has stood still.
Northbank Cottage our chosen bolthole for the weekend. Picture perfect and situated in a prime position. If you want to feel secluded but be close enoughto local amenities then this spot is for you. Every little detail has been thought about. A mud room for dirty boots and wet coats, a log burner for cosy nights in. Dvds and games encouraging that all important family bonding time. A well equipped kitchen with a decent coffee maker! Each bedroom is impeccably decorated, cosy and homely water bottles and blankets. The cottage has the most splendid garden to enjoy all year round. Firepit and several seating areas for long evenings. This is a cottage that will fulfil at anytime of the year.
In the hectic world that we live in a trip to Arran at least once a year should be on prescription from every Doctor!! Stop, breathe, take stock of what’s really important and come back feeling ready to take on the world again!!
