In June I was lucky enough to attend the Cunard Cruise Conference 2025, and it was my very first time stepping on board a Cunard ship. While I had researched Cunard thoroughly and spent plenty of time learning about the brand online, nothing truly compares to experiencing it in person.
We sailed aboard the iconic Queen Mary 2 from Southampton to Rotterdam, staying in a spacious balcony cabin that quickly became one of my favourite places to relax and watch the world go by.
Cunard is known for its elegance, tradition and impeccable service, but seeing it firsthand really brought that reputation to life. The atmosphere on board felt special from the moment we embarked. It blends classic ocean liner glamour with modern comfort in a way that feels timeless rather than formal. From the dining and afternoon teas to the talks and entertainment, everything felt carefully considered and effortlessly refined.
Our first day at sea was all about slowing down and soaking it all in. We spent time by the pool, relaxed in the whirlpool and enjoyed the fresh sea air and endless ocean views. The pool bar service made it even better, with friendly waiters taking drink orders directly to our loungers so we could properly switch off. There is also a beautiful spa on board offering a range of treatments if you want to fully indulge. Sadly we ran out of time to try it, but it looked like the perfect place to unwind.
The food on board was a real highlight. We dined in the Britannia Restaurant each evening and every meal was consistently excellent. Breakfast and lunch were served buffet style with plenty of variety, making it easy to find something to suit everyone. Cunard’s famous afternoon tea quickly became a daily ritual. Served in the Queens Room, it felt like a true Cunard moment, with white gloved waiters, delicate sandwiches, warm scones and beautifully presented cakes served on fine bone china. The menu changes daily, which made it feel even more special.
Each evening brought something different. The Royal Theatre hosted a mix of performances including a pianist, a dance show and a comedian. Elsewhere on board, the Golden Lion Pub was always lively with live music, quizzes and darts tournaments. For quieter moments there is a casino and a stunning library. On our final night we ended up in the G32 nightclub, which was the perfect way to end the trip on a high.
One of the standout moments of the voyage was Gala Night. Cunard includes at least one Gala Evening on every sailing of three nights or more, and while it is optional, I could not resist joining in. The ship transforms with elegant décor, special menus and signature cocktails. We were welcomed at dinner with a complimentary drink and there was a real sense of celebration throughout the ship.
