There’s something truly special about being among the first to experience a brand new cruise ship, and this week I had the incredible opportunity to sail aboard Legend of the Seas officially the world’s biggest cruise ship.
From the moment I stepped onboard, it was clear this wasn’t just another cruise. Every corner of the ship felt bigger, bolder, and more impressive than I could have imagined. Royal Caribbean has once again raised the bar, and I couldn’t wait to see everything Legend had to offer.
A Spectacular Departure from Málaga
As if sailing on the world’s biggest cruise ship wasn’t exciting enough, our departure from Málaga was made even more memorable with an incredible fireworks display.
Watching the night sky light up as Legend of the Seas slowly sailed away on her VIP inaugural voyage created one of those unforgettable moments that will stay with me forever. It was the perfect send off for what promised to be an amazing adventure.
Dining at Chops Grille
One of the first highlights of the cruise was dining at Chops Grille, Royal Caribbean’s signature steakhouse.
Widely regarded as serving some of the best steak at sea, it certainly lived up to its reputation. The quality of the food, the service, and the elegant atmosphere made for a fantastic evening.
If you’re planning to sail on Legend of the Seas, I’d highly recommend looking at one of Royal Caribbean’s specialty dining packages. Being able to choose three specialty restaurants for one fixed price is a great way to sample some of the ship’s outstanding culinary experiences.
A Night to Dress to Impress
Our first Dress to Impress evening was one I had been looking forward to, and I even treated myself to a brand new suit for the occasion.
Being Legend’s very first formal night made it even more special.
I was incredibly honoured to be invited to an exclusive dinner at Chops Grille alongside a select group of VIP guests, and I was proud to be one of the top five representatives from Scotland. Sharing the evening with such a brilliant group of people made the experience even more memorable.
After dinner, the celebrations continued in the Music Hall where we danced well into the evening before trying our luck in the casino.
Unfortunately, my luck at the tables was about as good as my luck with women! Thankfully, the laughter and great company more than made up for it.
It really was one of those nights that reminds you why formal evenings remain such a popular part of cruising.
Facing My Fear on Crown’s Edge
One experience I knew I couldn’t miss was Crown’s Edge.
Standing 154 feet above the ocean with nothing but the sea below certainly got my heart racing. I’ll admit, I questioned my decision more than once before stepping out.
But once I’d completed it, the feeling was incredible.
Sometimes the best memories come from pushing yourself outside your comfort zone, and this was definitely one of those moments. It’s an experience I’ll never forget.
An Unforgettable Journey on Royal Railway
One of the absolute highlights of my sailing was being invited to experience Royal Railway, Royal Caribbean’s unique railway-inspired dining adventure.
Set inside a beautifully themed 1900s railway carriage, the experience combines immersive storytelling with exceptional dining to create something unlike anything I’ve experienced at sea.
Our culinary journey followed the historic Spice Route, travelling through China, India, Persia, Turkey and finally Italy. Every course reflected a different destination, with incredible flavours, stunning presentation and immersive entertainment bringing each stop to life.
Royal Railway is currently exclusive to Legend of the Seas and Utopia of the Seas, making it one of the most sought-after experiences onboard and an absolute must for food lovers.
Jungle Night and the Incredible AquaDome
Legend of the Seas continued to impress every single evening.
The ship came alive during the Jungle and Animal themed night, with fantastic entertainment and an atmosphere that was infectious throughout the ship.
After enjoying another wonderful visit to Royal Railway, I decided it was time to relax with a well-earned glass of champagne before heading to one of the most anticipated shows onboard.
The Shockwaves Aqua Show inside the spectacular AquaDome completely exceeded my expectations.
Despite a little movement from the sea, the performers delivered an absolutely flawless performance packed with breathtaking acrobatics, diving and incredible special effects.
It’s without doubt one of the best entertainment productions I’ve ever seen on a cruise ship and should be at the very top of every guest’s must-see list.
Final Thoughts
Every day aboard Legend of the Seas brought another unforgettable experience.
From spectacular fireworks over Málaga and world-class dining to thrilling attractions, incredible entertainment and unforgettable evenings with friends, this sailing has been everything I hoped it would be and so much more.
Royal Caribbean has once again proven why it continues to lead the cruise industry. Legend of the Seas is more than just the world’s biggest cruise ship—it’s an experience unlike any other.
If this first VIP sailing is anything to go by, guests sailing in the future are in for something truly legendary.
