From the moment I stepped into Terminal 3 at Heathrow, I knew this wasn’t going to be just any fam trip—it was the kind of immersive, high-energy, theme park whirlwind that would make your inner child beam. Thanks to Gold Medal and Universal Orlando Resort, I joined an unforgettable group of fellow travel experts for six magical days exploring iconic attractions, world-class hotels, and—drumroll, please—a first look at the jaw-dropping Universal Epic Universe, opening May 2025!
Not only was this an incredible trip with some amazing people, but it was also my first time experiencing Universal—and it definitely won’t be the last. I feel so fortunate to have been one of the first UK agents to visit and experience the rides at Universal Epic Universe. EPIC? The name doesn’t even begin to cover it.
✈️ Day 1: Jet Set & Settle In
27 March
Our journey began with a smooth Delta flight from London Heathrow to sunny Orlando. By the time we landed, we were buzzing with excitement (caffeine and maybe a little wine definitely helped!).
Immigration was a breeze—the new app made everything super quick and easy, saving us loads of time. After collecting our luggage, we met our local rep and made our way to our vibrant retro-style basecamp: Universal’s Cabana Bay Beach Resort. This fun, throwback hotel is full of charm and the perfect spot to ease into Florida life.
🌊 Day 2: Splash, Scream & Celebrate
28 March
After a relaxed breakfast at Bayliner Diner, it was time to dive straight into the action—Universal Volcano Bay was our first stop of the day, and thanks to early park admission, we got a head start on the fun without the crowds.
A special shoutout to the TapuTapu wristband—an absolute game-changer! It lets you join virtual queues so you’re free to explore the park, grab a bite, or (like me) sip on a cocktail while you wait. Speaking of cocktails, I highly recommend the Blue Hawaiian—deliciously refreshing in the Florida heat.
My top three rides at Volcano Bay? Without a doubt:
- Honu ika Moana
- Krakatau Aqua Coaster
- TeAwa The Fearless River
In the late afternoon, we switched gears and headed to Universal Studios Florida. With Universal Express, we squeezed in a few thrilling rides before the party kicked off…
And what a night it was—Mardi Gras came alive in full glittery glory with music, street food, and dazzling floats. The party vibe was unreal and honestly, one of the highlights of the entire trip.
Dinner at NBC Sports Grill & Brew (the brisket was absolutely beautiful) followed by drinks and laughter at Pat O’Brien’s made it the perfect end to an epic day.
🎸 Day 3: Rock & Roll Hotel Hopping
29 March
We kicked things off with breakfast at The Kitchen inside the Hard Rock Hotel—a bold and delicious start that perfectly matched the hotel’s rockstar vibe. After a quick tour of this iconic property, it was time to dive headfirst into another high-energy park day.
Armed with our Universal Express passes, we packed in a seriously impressive list of rides across Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure:
- VelociCoaster
- Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey
- Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure
- Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts
- Revenge of the Mummy
- Hogwarts Express
- Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit
- Men in Black: Alien Attack
- Popeye & Bluto’s Bilge-Rat Barges
- Race Through New York with Jimmy Fallon
- Skull Island: Reign of Kong
- The Incredible Hulk Coaster
We wrapped up the day with site inspections at the sleek Universal Aventura Hotel and lush Loews Royal Pacific Resort, before enjoying dinner at Jake’s American Bar. The laid-back island vibes and hearty food were exactly what we needed after a day packed with coasters and magic.
🚀 Day 4: Welcome to the Future – EPIC Unveiled
30 March
This was the day everyone had been waiting for—the chance to step inside the future of theme parks. And I was beyond proud to be part of the very first UK agents group to enter Universal Epic Universe.
🌟 First Stop: Super Nintendo World
We began in Super Nintendo World and it was jaw-dropping. Walking through the warp pipe into a world of blocks, coins, and Mushroom Kingdom magic was like a dream.
I took on King Koopa in Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge — the AR elements, competitive gameplay, and immersive queue made this ride an instant favourite.
🐉 How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk
This land is amazing and full of fun, bursting with Viking charm and dragon-filled adventures. With smoky forges, towering cliffs, and thatched rooftops straight from the movies, Berk feels completely alive.
We got to ride Hiccup’s Wing Gliders — an absolute blast! It’s a swooping, soaring coaster that gives you the full dragon-rider experience. And yes—I met Toothless! That moment will stay with me forever.
✨ Wizarding World – Ministry of Magic
We entered the Ministry of Magic via the Floo Network. YES, it’s as magical as it sounds. The fire, the swirling green smoke, the storytelling—it was cinematic from start to finish.
We joined the action in Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry, where we helped bring Dolores Umbridge to justice (finally!). Then came Fantastic Beasts at Le Cirque Arcanus — a live show where Skender the ringmaster steals Newt Scamander’s suitcase, and it’s up to Gwenlyn to rescue the magical creatures. With stunning puppetry and dazzling effects, it truly blurred the lines between illusion and magic.
🌌 Celestial Park – The Heart of the Universe
At the centre of it all is Celestial Park, a tranquil hub with shimmering pathways, interactive water features, and surreal cosmic vibes.
Its crown jewel? Stardust Racers. A rollercoaster race across the cosmos, this dual-launch racing coaster sends you soaring through space with gravity-defying twists. Sleek, intense, and unforgettable.
After a mind-blowing day, we visited Loews Portofino Bay Hotel and enjoyed a divine dinner at Mama Della’s Ristorante, complete with live Italian opera. Because of course we did.
👋 Day 5: Bittersweet Goodbyes
31 March – 01 April
Our final day began with check-outs and one last site inspection at the stylish new Universal Stella Nova Resort before heading to Orlando International Airport. After a layover in Atlanta, we landed back at Heathrow with tired feet, full hearts, and camera rolls bursting with memories.
