It is no secret that I love travelling, but this time, I decided to try a lodge break for the first time in Scotland—and I was not disappointed! Tucked away in Dumfries and Galloway is The Curve at Caerlaverock Estate, a perfect getaway for couples. Its unusual design immediately stood out during my search, and I quickly booked a two-night stay.
Upon arrival, it was clear that this lodge was something special. Commissioned by the owner and designed by Sam Booth, the unique architecture and stunning location were everything I had hoped for. The open-plan layout, complete with bifold doors, maximized the breathtaking views of the Solway Estuary and looked out onto a wood-fired hot tub. The lodge was impressively well-equipped, offering everything from BBQ essentials to high-quality pots, pans, dishes, and cutlery. Eco friendly cleaning supplies and ample wood for both the log burner and hot tub were also provided.
One of the standout features was the enormous freestanding bath, which added a real wow factor to the space. Arran toiletries were a luxurious touch, and the bed was incredibly comfortable. The sofa area featured a great selection of games, which was a pleasant surprise given the absence of a TV, which I did not miss for a minute!
Our first day began with a visit to the nearby Nith Hotel for drinks, followed by an evening in the wood-fired hot tub under the clearest night sky I have ever seen—pure bliss!
On day two, after a leisurely breakfast, we set up the hot tub before heading to Caerlaverock Castle, just a five-minute drive from The Curve. We soaked up some local history and enjoyed a hot chocolate at the castle's café. Later, we visited the Robert Burns Centre in Dumfries before heading into the town center for lunch and some shopping. For dinner, we returned to the Nith Hotel and were not disappointed—delicious food and a warm, lively atmosphere.
As it was our last night, we couldn’t resist another dip in the hot tub under the stars, followed by a cozy game of chess.
This trip was the perfect relaxing break, allowing us to recharge our batteries while exploring the beautiful area around us. With its 5-star TripAdvisor rating, I can’t recommend The Curve at Caerlaverock Estate enough for anyone looking for a tranquil escape!
