Budapest is brilliant for a city break

I recently spent five nights in Budapest with my boyfriend and we were completely captivated by this Hungarian city!

We stayed at the recently refurbished Hotel Museum, which is situated in the heart of the city. Our room was bright and spacious and had a range of modern amenities, including a minibar, multi-channel TV and Wi-Fi.

Despite being a smaller boutique hotel, there was a well equipped gym and a luxurious Spa Centre, where we spent time relaxing in the Jacuzzi and receiving complimentary foot massages.

There is so much to see in Budapest, and given that the sun was shining, we decided to have some fun and hired Segways to allow us to take in the major sights, such as the Fisherman’s Bastion, the Hungarian Parliament Building, Heroes Square and the astounding Buda Castle.

No matter where we travel, we always like to sample the local cuisine and this city did not disappoint. Budapest is bursting with cafés and restaurants where you can experience authentic Hungarian dishes such Gulyás (goulash) or Kürtőskalács (chimney cake) - I’d definitely recommend the chimney cakes they are divine!

If you’re an animal lover, I would suggest that you visit the Zoo Café - the first of its kind in Europe - where you can indulge in speciality coffees and comforting cakes while handling a range of animals, from rabbits to reptiles.

The nightlife in Budapest is awesome too, you can hang out in ruin pubs, visit rooftops wine bars, dance in discos or attend live music events.

On our second night, we opted for an Evening River Cruise on the Danube. It was wonderful seeing the various landmarks lit up at night while we listened to music and sipped Prosecco. If it’s romance that you’re after, then this is a must-do when in Budapest.

If you're wondering if Budapest is worth visiting, the answer yes! Every corner of this city oozes with history and charm. The stylish and characteristic architecture is unrivalled and provides the ultimate backdrop for those all important holiday photographs - your Instagram account won't know what's hit it.
