Dubai: The Stopover City Guide

As a Travel agency we learn about destinations through research, through experience and through our fantastic customer feedback, However at Thorne Travel our consultants get to live it. In the last 3 months alone; Christiane, Amanda & John have all travelled to Dubai. Each having a different type of experience proving that Dubai has something for everyone.

As one of the worlds busiest airports Dubai is often an ideal stopover destination which is what John did on his way to his Royal Caribbean Asian cruise. John decided on the Waldorf Astoria Dubai Palm, Situated on one of the most iconic the Waldorf Astoria oozes sophistication and class. John flew with Emirates direct from Glasgow, a 7.5 hour flight makes it a great location for a shorter break also. Johns experience began the moment he checked it and head to the Emirates business class lounge, he was greeted by two very attentive staff member whom showed him around the lounge, with food and drinks included the lounge was a perfect way to begin the journey. Portions were small, however the meals were most definitely quality over quantity, all drinks were branded and included Johns favourite Champagne brand.

When boarded the airline staff were fantastic, especially as it was Johns partners first long haul flight, they reassured him throughout the flight and continued to make sure they were ok throughout the journey. Food & drinks were complementary throughout and was of a very good standard.
Upon arriving in Dubai a private transfer was awaiting them to whisk the off to the Waldorf Astoria where they were greeted by name, a glass of champagne and a cold pressed towel. The luggage was also taken by the concierge, As it was 8.30am their room was not ready, however on this occasion the hotel offered them a complementary breakfast where they found a culinary extravaganza – They choice was immense. Not long after breakfast they had been shown to their room….it did not disappoint. The room was amazing, a huge spa bath and a a key point is that every room has a balcony facing the sea and towards the Burj al arab.

The Pool area was fantastic with it’s own private beach, on arrival you are asked for your room number, then are taken to your sun-bed with towels and an ice bag with 2 bottles of water. A special touch was whilst in pool they would change towels and polish glasses..

As on a half board basis they dined at the hotel which included 2 evening drinks, the food was amazing – The choice and quality was outstanding as were the cocktails especially during happy hour.

As happy as they would have been at the hotel for the full duration Dubai has so may experience to be had, with visits to both shopping malls, the Burj Khalifa and a speed boat around the island which was up there with shopping at Christian Louboutin.
